The American Gold Buffalo coin, also known as the Gold Buffalo, is a 24-karat gold bullion coin produced by the United States Mint. It was first introduced in 2006 and is the only 24-karat gold coin regularly minted by the U.S. government.
The design of the American Gold Buffalo coin pays homage to the historic Buffalo Nickel, which was in circulation from 1913 to 1938. The obverse of the coin features the profile of a Native American chief, believed to be a composite image of three different tribal leaders from the early 20th century. The reverse of the coin showcases an American bison (often referred to as a buffalo) standing on a mound.
